MECHANISMS OF ACTION OF THE INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS
A-LIPOIC ACID
Direct antioxidant activity on the whole radical spectrum.
Indirect antioxidant activity (increases the synthesis of REDUCED GLUTATÍONE).
In diabetes, high concentrations of AGES ( AGEs, from the English "Advanced Glycation End-products" are compounds derived from sugar created in the body. Smoking or eating certain foods cooked at high temperatures increases the deposits of AGE in the arteries and this can lead to insulin resistance or other health problems ) could play a key role in the apoptosis of retinal capillaries and oxidative stress is involved in this process.
The reduction of AGES in the retinal capillaries could prevent their apoptosis and, ultimately, the development of diabetic retinopathy.
Administration of a-lipoic acid reduces the acute mitochondrial oxidative effect induced by ACROLEIN on the retinal pigment epithelium and therefore may reduce or prevent its degeneration induced by a variety of oxidative sources.
(AGES = precursors of free radicals at the vascular level), (ACROLEIN = main oxidative compound present in cigarette smoke).
CENTELLA
Centella on fibroblasts acts by turning the protein synthesis from collagen to glycosaminoglycans, thus favoring the proper functioning of the micro - vascular - tissue unit and stimulating the fibroblastic synthesis of fibronectin with consequent increase
the consistency of the vessel wall.
The combination of Centella and Sweet Clover has been shown to improve retinal sensitivity in the long term in Type 2 Diabetes Patients with Cystoid Macular Edema.
The multiplicity of Centella's activities is associated with six important mechanisms, all interconnected and modulators of each:

control of capillary filtration and edema;

strong antioxidant power effective on oxidative stress associated with inflammation or infection and synergistic action with other oxidants;

Orthosiphon exhibits dose-dependent diuretic activity.
Orthosiphon demonstrates important antioxidant activities and could be considered an immunomodulatory agent.
Sinensetin, a constituent flavonoid of Orthosiphon, possesses significant anti-inflammatory properties so much that it can be considered for the development of new anti-inflammatory therapies.
MELILOT

RUSCO
Anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor activity; in this way a narrowing action of the vessels is obtained which involves the reduction of the leakage of liquids.
BLUEBERRY
Its anthocyanosides improve the elasticity of the vessels, have an anti-haemorrhagic action and protect against damage from free radicals, reduce capillary permeability and prevent micro hemorrhages, which are particularly dangerous at the level of retinal blood flow.
Another important function of these molecules is to intervene on the mechanisms of vision: they are able to increase the speed of regeneration of the retinal purpura, with an effect of improving vision, especially at night.
VITAMIN E
A recent study has shown that Vitamin E reduces plasma levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and central macular thickness in diabetic patients with proliferative retinopathy.

Advanced non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy:
2 cps x 2 x 5 days - then 1 cps x 3 x 15 days - then 1 cps die x 45 days
Mild and moderate diabetic retinopathy np; stage III and IV hypertensive retinopathy:
1 cps x 2 for 20 days - then 1 cps x 1 x 60 days
I and II stage hypertensive retinopathy; atherosclerotic retinopathy:
1 capsule per day x 60 days
